We Need More Fugitives

“What we need now is not more freedoms, but more fugitives.” - Dr. Jasmine Syedullah

We Need More Fugitives is an invitation only (for now due to capacity), membership-based, monthly virtual study and practice space for radical Black feminist freedom dreamers. The name of the group, We Need More Fugitives, is lovingly borrowed with consent from Black feminist Ra/Malika Imhotep, ph.d. and their article of the same name. The group will launch in Black August 2023 as we celebrate the 4-year anniversary of The Black Mecca Project.

Our initial intentions for this virtual study and practice space are to:

  • Disrupt isolation and disconnection and cultivate a diasporic community of care among radical Black women and gender expansive people so that we are nourished and sustained over time to continue imagining, shaping, and embodying pathways to freedom and liberation

  • Study and share fugitive texts, resources, and practices to strengthen and deepen our Black feminist praxis individually and collectively

  • Ignite and nurture Black feminist solidarities across geographies

  • Explore what we can conjure and create collectively
